Informant 5 for Android
We are starting now to gather the list of fixes, changes and improvements for Informant 5 for Android. We are still early in the process. If you want to share your thoughts or feedback you can check out the following blog post, or the Android Product Feedback Forum.
Here is what our “Wish List for Informant Android” looks like right now:
- Make it look more like Informant 5 for iOS
- Convert a list of tasks into one checklist
- Easier to access/understand filters
- Easier ways to choose which calendars to sync/view- Fixed
- Fix google calendar color sync issue – Fixed
- Simplified sort options for tasks
- Simplified settings (what does large first day mean?)
- Option to view tasks on start date, today (past due) or due dates in calendar view
- Sync notes with google keep
- Remove option to access local Samsung calendars since we don’t support that – Fixed
- Popup on install indicating google calendar must also be installed to sync
- More obvious backup save option to dropbox or local. Is backup to google drive an option – Fixed
- Badge counts
- Drag and drop for events and tasks
- Access to subscribed calendars again
- Ability to logout of sync account or turn off sync (like iOS sync options)
- Color options that aren’t grouped into a theme. (now want to change the weekend color, must change to that theme and apply all custom colors)
- When writing note, have title of note be the first data entered
- Password protect
- Simplified default options (now must tap menu bars to set default for event time/date)
- Sync to other non-traditional calendar apps (paprika for example)
- Occasional sync issues with IS (calendar colors changing to black or icons missing)
- Assign new calendar to either google or IS-now if IS is setup it automatically goes there, no way to change – Fixed
Nice to hear this. I moved to another app few days ago as there were just false promises in the past.
7-simplified settings – large first day is a great option to have in a week view
It would be great to see projects in tasks and keep contexts and actions (GTD).
Anyway I would be happy to give you some ideas, feedback and I can help with localization (Czech) as soon as I will see some developement.
I will keep your email and reach out to you if you can help with Czech.
thanks for the comments. We are early in this process but want to engage users in the roadmap.
Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller…
It looks like no many care about informant for Android
Now that Outlook for Android is decent, I find informant falling out of the loop. Outlook can link to accounts in apps like Evernote and Wunderlist making sync and integration really simple. Informant should be on that list of Outlook simple integrated friends too!! I don’t see that on your list. It should be an urgent item to prevent an exodus.
I signed up for Wunderlist today which means I will now use Outlook for email, calendar, contacts, and Wunderlist for tasks.
Sorry informant but after 14 mostly happy years its over.
gordo,
We are working on some new Outlook sync options. Stay tuned.
You might want to post something in the Google Plus Pocket Informant Android Beta community too. Most have probably moved on after a year, but you never know.
I don’t see Android Wear on the list.
After reading a LOT of negative reviews for UI, UX, and other issues concerning PI5 for iOS, may need to rethink your “1. Make it look more like Informant 5 for iOS”. However, PIA definitely needs an updated look and feel.
Pretty large list. It’s already been over a year. I hope it will not be another year getting this done.
PI for Android development was halted at the time due to many reasons, but it is on the list. However due to the large list of things that need to be done (primarily to finish PI 5 for Android), you probably won’t hear about that until its near complete.
I know I’ve said that many many many times in the past, the difference was back then I had no idea when it would happen. Now we have a better idea due to improved resources.
Alex. I have tried finding alternatives and pieced together some viable things, but have come full circle, back to using PIA 4.19 and hope that you are right. I was with you years ago on iOS and when I went to Android, PIA was one of the first things I looked for. I enjoyed giving feedback into development efforts/design thoughts/bugs in the beta program. I hope to see PIA 5 one day. I’ll keep holding on.
Is there an option to get some things done in 4.19? Would love to be able to mark task complete in Android Wear, same thing from the pull down notification on the phone. I’ve seen a couple of bugs too. Nothing major, I don’t remember them at the moment. I think one was showing a blank view after an edit.
Thanks for the comment!
I have been using Informant since my Blackberry days. Went through several iPhones and now on my third Android. Can you possibly figure a way we can create an Event from Contact in our address book. I could do this before on either the iPhone or Blackberry, don’t remember which.
Fix the many bugs. Most annoying are search doesn’t always find events or tasks, moving a task fails occasionally, editing an event or task creates a duplicate, syncing with google calendar never works.
Hi, happy to give some thoughts, too. I am a long-time-user of PI, starting more than a decade ago with PI 2005 R2.1. Since than I have simply not been able to find any App better suited than PI.
Nevertheless, the UI does no longer seem to be as functional and cutting edge as in former times, quite a long time since there was a major (at least optical) improvement.´for the Android App. I know that it is always better to start with your own ideas, nevrtheless I recommend to have a look at the interface of OneView Calendar (just evolving) and especially MindFlux (obviously no longer developed).
BTW – I do sync my calendar – only – with DAVCal, which works flawlessly.
The PIA feature I really really can`t live without is the the incredible categories, and the possibility to use distinctive colours (inside the same calendar) and filters. I nevertheless still miss the option (see Windows) to have a time activated filter (work related categories shown in the timeframe …, personal categories shown …., categories which cover both cases (e.g. days off and birthdays) shown in parallel, etc.). Additionally I would love (see Windows again) to add or at least link documents / files / images to an appointment (hyperlink to the internet, link to the local storage, or included files)
Shrek3K,
The blog posts comments here and the Android uservoice forum are where we are pulling ideas for the next iteration on Android. These ideas will all be considered.
Long time PI user. Please retain all current calendar views. I loved all the views available and finds them very useful. What I think needs improvement are more cosmetic in nature – a cleaner look and yeah.. perhaps something similar to the iOS app (though we don’t need an iOS lookalike as this is Android :)). As an example, Calendar item color Badge + light background shade would be very nice. A month view that shows calendar colors instead of “Text” or “Date” only. The header icons needs a little upgrading and improvement….
