With the recent release of iOS 14.5 causing issues with our legacy iOS v4 users, we wanted to make sure that this situation wouldn’t happen with our legacy v4 Android users. It’s always a difficult decision to let go of a product that users have become accustomed to, but it’s not a sustainable business model keeping two versions of an app in an operating system that is being continuously updated. With that being said, we will be removing the Android v4 (2015) app from the Google Play Store on Monday, May 17th, 2021.
We understand that some users still like v4 more than v5. We are always looking to receive feedback and v5 will continue to improve in our upcoming releases. Reach out to our support team to leave feedback – here. A top concern for us is to make sure that no users lose any data, and are able to transition from the app to wherever they decide to go next.
One of the points of contention we still hear from some users with regard to v5 is the subscription model. As much as we’d like to make all of our users happy, it’s just not feasible to support multiple different business models. We have found the subscription model is working for many people who agree that Informant is a product well worth ~$2/month. We hope you think so too.
With that being said, we wanted to address some potential common questions that Android v4 (2015) users may have.
When will the application be removed from the Google Play Store?
Informant v4 (2015) will be removed from the store next Monday, May 17th.
Will I still be able to use the app once it’s removed from the store?
As long as you do not uninstall the app it will continue to function as it has been. The only thing to note is that, similar to what happened when iOS 14.5 was released and iOS v4 stopped working, as Android makes updates v4 will continue to lose functionality and become more unpredictable. Since v4 is no longer supported, if anything stops functioning or there are issues with your data in that version, we will not be able to help. We want to make sure that none of our users are left being unable to access their important events and tasks, so we encourage all of our v4 users to transition to v5 as soon as possible.
How do I access all of the same features in v5 as I have been in v4?
In order to unlock all of the task, project, and event functionality as v4 you will need to have an active Informant Sync subscription. This will also allow you to sync to any other Android, iOS, and macOS devices, as well as our new beta web version. For a 2-week free trial go here.
What if I don’t like v5?
