Recently I was asked why I spend so much time in the Forums when our customer support team could be doing that instead; honestly I just really enjoy hearing from our customers and working with them on real solutions to their every day problems. That’s what Informant is all about – helping people become more productive. Ideally the less time spent in our app the better because you’re day is organized. However when you do spend time in our app, it should be pleasant, fast, reliable, and get your job done.
With Informant 4.00 we spent a lot of time reworking major parts of our interface to meet all those requirements, but we knew that we’d get feedback on areas we’d need to improve afterwards. We quickly updated to 4.01 to handle our most immediate feedback and then spent some time on 4.02 to address the majority of the rest. We’re now working on Informant 4.1 primarily for iOS 8 support – and we’ll talk more about that in another post!
So yesterday we submitted 4.02 to Apple for review. Right now review times are about 8 days and going up – so I’m expecting it to take a little over a week. Here are the major changes for 4.02:
- TravelAssist™ events in Day View/Column Week View now show in the all day area
- Natural Language Entry via Quick Entry now works correctly with TravelAssist™
- Birthday events from the iOS Birthday calendar now show the contact picture next to the birthday
- On iPad, when you swipe in the mini-months from the left edge, they now remain docked on the view. Swipe to the left to undock.
- Day View/Column Week View: several visual tweaks to improve Dynamic Text Size behavior, task priorities, and improved double tap new event creation
- Day View/Column Week View now allows you to use a two finger swipe down on an event to change its duration
- Added an option for Month View to display “Future Months” with a light border, dashed border, or shaded cell. This helps identify the current month more easily.
- Tapping on the tab bar a second time in Notes and Tasks views now brings up the navigation drawer
- On iPhone we now show 5 weeks in Scroll by Month mode instead of 6
- Calendar Store by SchedJoules now shows the price and what is included more clearly
- When tapping on a contact in an event or task – we’ve added “WhatsApp” and “Open Contact” in the menu
- Added an option for Event Priority Colors to display in the event rows
- When opening a note on iPad in Notes view, it now takes up the whole width
- Improved iOS 8 support
- Today View now remembers the vertical timeline spacing you give it via the two-finger pinch gesture
- Notes in the event/task detail are now word wrapped
- Improved recurring event printing
- Templates have been improved to fix some user interface and save issues
- When using Mini-Text with background color, multi-day timed events now are colored instead of using the white background
- Fixed batch editing of alarms for tasks
- Fixed an issue where in some circumstances a filter would get reset, and a long delay could occur in Month View
- Fixed Context Location Alerts
- Fixed an issue with notebooks not being listed in the Notebooks page if all the notebooks are in a single stack and have no other root level notebooks
- Fixed an issue in Month View not showing all day events when using “Time Bar” mode
- Fixed an issue with reordering checklist items multiple times within an editor session
- Continued improvements to multiple sync engines
- We now alert you if there are too many non-fatal errors in sync
- Improved database upgrade process from “very old” versions of Informant
- Rewrote Database Backup routines to improve reliability
